◆Kokura Castle◆
Kokura Castle is the only castle with a castle tower in Fukuoka Prefecture. The castle tower is the sixth tallest among castles in Japan and has one of the largest ground floor areas in the country, making it a very magnificent castle.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), Kokura was said to be “All roads in Kyushu lead to Kokura.” Kokura flourished as an important transportation hub from various parts of Kyushu, and was also an important base and a prosperous castle town that served as a watchdog over the Kyushu region.

Kokura was the city where Miyamoto Musashi, the world-famous swordsman, spent the most time during his life. Iori Miyamoto, Musashi’s adopted son, served in the Kokura clan, and there are many ruins related to Musashi.


Kokura Castle is a very convenient castle, only a 10-minute walk from Kokura Station, where the Shinkansen bullet train stops, and various events are held inside and outside the castle to make it the “most interesting castle in Japan. The samurai troop is somewhere in Kokura Castle, so take a commemorative photo with them!
Inside Kokura Castle, there is a free kimono experience corner where you can try on the super flashy kimonos for which Kitakyushu City is famous.
There is a permanent café on the top floor of Kokura Castle Keep, and the entire top floor can be rented out for parties and other events.
The adjacent Kokura Castle Garden is a restored villa of the feudal lord of Kokura, and the garden and architecture of the time have been recreated. Matcha tea ceremony and afternoon tea are popular at this facility.
Changing into rental kimonos and taking a walk around Kokura Castle and the Kokura Castle Garden is also popular.
